Lava Love
Jewelry box, Lava stone, Ortoceras
Lavastone, has a rich and ancient history. The origins of lavastone can be traced back to volcanic eruptions, where lava is ejected from the earth. As lava cools and solidifies, it forms basalt, the main composition of lavastone. In ancient Egypt, it was utilized in the construction of various structures, including temples, tombs, and statues. The Egyptians considered lavastone to be a sacred material Romans used it as a building material for roads, bridges, aqueducts, and monuments. Romans recognized its durability and resistance to heat and weathering, making it an ideal choice for long-lasting structures. In many cultures lavastone has been used for religious practices, because it has often been associated with spiritual and healing properties, Lavastone was believed to protect against negative energies and promote stability.
Orthoceras are extinct marine cephalopods that lived in the Ordovician period and were the ancestors of today’s squid and octopus. These marine animals had long, straight shells. The name “Orthoceras” means “straight horn” in Greek, referring to the shape of their shell. In art, Orthoceras shells are often used as decorative elements in jewelry and home decoration. Additionally, artists can create realistic or stylized representations of Orthoceras in a variety of mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography. The elegant and geometric shapes of Orthoceras shells make them a popular subject for artists interested in natural forms and patterns.
